Circumcision is a surgical procedure that removes the foreskin from a person’s penis. It’s done for various reasons, but one major one being to prevent conditions known as phimosis and paraphimosis.
Phimosis and paraphimosis can be painful, impair sexual function, and pose a risk for infection. It’s essential to know that Circumcision Melbourne can prevent these issues from recurring; thus, speaking to your doctor about this option may be beneficial.
Pollock Technique(tm)
The Pollock Technique(tm) is an effective circumcision method that removes the foreskin without any incision. This procedure is highly safe and minimally invasive with little risk of complications.
Our circumcision doctor uses advanced pain control methods in combination with this procedure to reduce stress on your infant and family. Plus, it’s 10x faster than traditional circumcisions and no device needs to remain attached afterward.
At Pollock Technique(tm), we offer the Pollock Technique to babies, boys and men of all ages. It is performed using a Mogen clamp under long-acting local anesthesia.
Circumcision is practiced by most cultures for religious or cultural reasons as well as to reduce the risk of urinary tract infections and penile cancer. It can be done at any age, but it’s most frequently done on newborns.
Numbing Cream
A topical anesthetic (numbing cream) is a medication that can be applied directly onto the skin. It helps reduce pain before injections or other medical procedures.
Numbing cream can also be used as a pain reliever prior to tattooing, microneedling and other minimally invasive treatments. You can purchase one from your local pharmacy or online, but make sure it’s applied properly in order to prevent injury and an unfavorable outcome.
Before the procedure, numbing cream should be applied to the skin for 60 minutes and covered with either Tegaderm(r) dressing or plastic wrap.
Studies have demonstrated that numbing cream can be effective at relieving pain during circumcision. Studies have indicated EMLA and DPNB creams reduce pain by around 50% when compared to a placebo.
Soothing Music
Music has the unique power to reduce cortisol, a hormone which may exacerbate feelings of stress and anxiety. It can also help you feel calm and at ease during medical procedures.
When you arrive for your circumcision, our staff will ask if you would like to listen to some relaxing music before the procedure. We have a wide selection of soothing tunes that can help prepare you for surgery.
Once in the procedure room, we will administer an injection known as a dorsal penile ring block into soft tissue alongside the penis to numb it. After 6-10 minutes, your son should feel fully numb and can then undergo circumcision.
At the circumcision, soothing music is played and your son may be given sugar pacifiers to suck on for extra comfort. Studies have demonstrated that sweet flavors distract babies and reduce their perception of pain.
Tylenol
Acetaminophen, which can be found in Tylenol and many over-the-counter (OTC) medicines and prescription pain medications, is an effective analgesic. It may be taken before and after circumcision to reduce the discomfort experienced during this procedure.
Taken to excess, acetaminophen can lead to liver issues and possibly harm your baby if you are breastfeeding. Consult with your doctor if it is safe for you to take this medication if you are pregnant, nursing, or have severe liver issues.
Studies have revealed that combining local anesthesia (rod-aspirator block with lidocaine, dorsal penile nerve block) with nonpharmacological analgesia can be effective for relieving procedural pain during circumcision. Unfortunately, there is still no established standard protocol for analgesia during male circumcision.
